The Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) and the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) have issued the following statement today:
“Leaders from the WGA and the AMPTP have mutually agreed to resume formal negotiations on November 26. No other details or press statements will be issued.”
We can’t add much. Don’t know the backstory of what’s led up to this.
We have confirmed that the AMPTP is NOT requiring us to stop striking in the interim as a pre-condition.
More as we get it.

Awesome! First step to resolution and justice. 100% behind the WGA! Stay strong!
I think this is a huge victory. My guess is that they were going to let the strike drag out through the holidays, expected people to start crossing the line and expected to be able to turn public sentiment against the writers. I think they were caught off guard by the showrunners staying out and the actors refusing the cross the line. I think they didn't expect the amount of public support the writers are getting, and I think they're starting to realize that they can't just count on American Idol and The Amazing Race to pull them through this.
Stand strong guys. You won a big victory getting them back to the table. They're still going to try to screw you, though, especially if they think that by going back to the table they can change the dynamic of the strike and get folks to cross the picket lines.
If yinz stand strong, though, you'll win.
In a gold rush, the first thing you do is stake your claim!
Not to rain on the parade or anything, but I am still a bit suspicious of the timing here. If the AMPTP is genuine in their desire to negotiate with the WGA then my hat is off to them.
Of course showing up to the table, having good faith talks and actually signing a fair deal are three different things. But it's a start.
However as a fan and viewer, I am still not buying any new DVDs (curious that the meeting is timed *after* Thanksgiving and the big Black Friday sales weekend) or doing any downloads or watching any streams UNTIL AFTER A FAIR COMPENSATION AGREEMENT IS SECURED for everyone who makes motion pictures and television episodes.
Keep fighting WGAE & WGAW...you're not there yet.
A few things:
1 - Writers should have asked for more than they really wanted, because AMPTP will probably try to "negotiate" down from what you're asking.
2 - Excellent point about the timing, Vdovault. After Thanksgiving and Black Friday. AMPTP wants to see if this is really going to affect sales. I will try to get the word out to everyone I know (and on the radio here in Maine. . . thank God I have a public soapbox!) NOT TO BUY DVDs until December.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Awesome Job Guys Go WGA Im really proud that we have writers like you guys.
